There is no substitute for cubic inches displacement. Bigger is better. Mind you, this is only my uneducated opinion. Absolutely! You don't have to be educated to think logically.

Hi Pete, please see my later post to answer your question. Cheers Thanks for the reply Yobarr.
By the way, 300's have the towbar built in from the factory.
You write; " anyone with an IQ above 27 would understand that although a stupid little turbocharged, overstressed, high revving V6 engine may make more power in the short term, there is no way known that it will have the longevity of the old slow-revving, understressed little V8 that is in the 79."
Conjecture, yet to be proven.
Hard to see that the 3.346cc Diesel is a small motor. Bigger than most of it's competition.
LC300's at any speed, towing or not sit around 1400 to 1590 revs, hardly high revving.
Cheers.

Hi Pete. "Hardly high revving", but not even in torque band. OK to take kids to playschool but useless for towing. Typical 'smoke and mirrors' stuff. More tomorrow. Cheers.

Thanks Yobarr. I don't expect you to agree with anything I say on this matter, but I should have said those figures are whilst in Auto mode, on flat road. Easily bumped up into 'best' torque revs dropping a gear in manual mode which is maybe a better deal for towing. But the LC300 has plenty of power doing what it does. A stock LC300 will blow just about every other stock vehicle off the road towing a same load. That really cannot be argued about. Cheers

Not a snowflakes chance in hell, but the LC300 would travel waaaay further on $100 worth of fuel. My neighbour had a Y62 but had to sell his house to pay the fuel bill after he towed a camper van from Brisbane to Cameron Corner and back. The Y62 has HEAPs more power, but absolutely LOVES petrol. Horses for courses, I guess, but I prefer my little V8 that'll go forever, and does 5.8km/litre at 6800kg all-up weight. Better than either of the others.

I thought we were discussing the V6, LC300.

I thought we were discussing the V6, LC300. Hi Rod, we were indeed discussing the V6, but perhaps I confused the issue with mention of my little V8. I've since edited my post to make it more clear. Sorry for the confusion.

$100 worth of fuel is no good in a blown up underperforming motor.

$100 worth of fuel is no good in a blown up underperforming motor. After a bit of research I've decided that this Toyota V6 diesel is an absolute dud, and will cost Toyota a LOT of gold in warranty work. Just my prediction. The big-end bearings are half the size of those in earlier models, and trying to get around emissions rules by running 0W20 engine oil is an exercise in stupidity, I believe. Those interested might like to access "Landcruiser 300 series ENGINE FAILURE whats going to be their WEAK LINK" on the website. D4dengines.com.au where much is explained, in detail. There us much to be learned there. A friend in WA has an LC300 and tells that he has received "radio silence" in his attempts to communicate with Toyota. Strange? While the LC300 certainly is a good looking vehicle, with luxurious interior and plenty of power, it is out of its depth trying to better the already over-rated but under-performing 200 series, with its virtually unbreakable little V8. There are certain to be many LC300 owners who will strongly defend this car, giving their positive personal accounts of performance etc, but I reckon that this all will be the calm before the storm. Will they be equally happy in 2-3 years? For their sake, I hope so. Cheers
