Toyota apparently has refused a warranty claim on the engine of a near-new LC300? This always was going to be a dud engine, but does anybody have any knowledge, perhaps details, of this event? Cheers

I hope the owners come clean and tell us exactly what was done to the engine and exactly which part(s) failed.

In the Whirlpool thread there is a link to their video log. I tried skimming a few to see if they talk about the mods but found it so annoying to watch/listen I abandoned the idea. Their idea of what makes a watchable video is very different from mine.
Here is one where there is a quick view of the vehicle.
I note that in addition to the heavy tinny on the roof they also carry a trailer. There is also what looks like at least 25-30hp outboard (100kg+?).

You buy a new $100k car.
You cut most of the rear bodywork off it.
You're an idiot and should be denied warranty on anything you buy... ever.

Thanks Fellas, for posting these links. Although I have not yet studied details, first impressions are that these people have more money than brains. Who in their right mind would chop up a brand new car and then overload it to the point of stupidity, with a boat on the roof, huge toolbox and bicycles on van's drawbar, and jerry cans hanging off the back of the car's body. This car appears to have been so overloaded on its rear axle that there is NO WAY that it would have been legal or safe, but I'll study the links before I say much more about that. In short, it appears that they should have bought a Ram 2500, Silverado 2500, F250 or similar. Best option possibly would have been a twin-cab 79 with a GVM upgrade to 3780kg. More later, but I look forward to comments from others. LC300 is even more useless than the much-adored , but greatly overrated, LC200. And what is "quarter of a lap"? If they've travelled from Queensland to Carnarvon, they've already done more than "a quarter lap". Let's hope that Toyota doesn't buckle to the usual social media "Poor me" BS, by installing a free engine.

I notice that the engine is a 3.3l twin-turbo diesel V6. That would be plenty of grunt for an old fart like me, but I could see how some "enthusiast" might want to get rid of the lag and play with the boost. I notice at Whirlpool that someone is speculating that inappropriate engine loading may have worn out the bearings. It would be interesting if this power-train did turn out to have an inherent reliability problem that was accelerated by the couple's modifications.

Hi Pete, unfortunately today I am tied up with repairing springs and other things on the truck, but I will address your question when I can. Details later. Briefly, the LC300 is little more than an over-rated show pony, as was the LC200. Cheers

Cadogan: I love that bloke although, yes, sometimes his delivery can be irritating.
It's amusing how he takes cliches and extends them into absurdity.
However he tells the truth as he sees it and clearly knows about cars.
That LC300 peaks at about 3500rpm which is very high for a diesel. My Trailblazer, 520Nm, 2.8L peaks at 2000rpm.
