I so wish I had been involved in this project - a brilliant piece of engineering: BBC - SpaceX

What a fantastic achievement.
Here is another version of the video ...... a bit longer also showing the main rocket doing a controlled landing in the ocean.

Was that a controlled explosion (so that the propellant doesn't contaminate the ocean) ??

NH: interesting comment. What sort and how much contamination would whatever was left of the propellant produce? Indeed, what was the propellant? Not something I had considered but I'm sure you're right on top of it.

You are a wizz on Wikipedia :)
So how much would be left on splashdown and what would be its pollution impact?

Remember the early PC game Lunar Lander? You had a rocket plummetting to the surface and had to apply just enough power at just the right time to slow it enough so it would not crash. Just a slight misjudgement and you would be out of fuel before touchdown .... fail.
I am sure Elon's team would have this worked out pretty closely, with just enough extra to deal with the odd emergency situation. But don't forget .... the goal of controlled landings whether water or chopsticks is reusability. I am guessing whatever fuel remains is reusable and therefore minimal pollution.
