Hi all, have just returned from a three week trip around Vic. Practically every road we travelled on was an utter disgrace. On the Murray Valley Highway not far from Nyah we came across a family who's car had just gone through a pothole that was roughly 12 centimetres deep and about a foot wide. (I got out to see if they needed help and had a good look at it) Their car's front driver side wheel was at right angles to the road. They were heading off to Mildura for a week's break. Since he had already called for help there was little I could do but sympathise. He had full comp insurance but, unless the company could get recompense from the people responsible, he would be in danger of losing the no claims bonus. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that this road comes under the Feds when it comes to upkeep? The state of our roads is an absolute bloody disgrace. I can recall when in the fifties and sixties if we were coming into Vic from NSW we would say, "thank goodness that we are now on decent roads". Methinks that it is well and truly the other way round now. When will these pollies Fedaral and State, put ALL the registration revenue back into the roads instead of diverting it to pay for the blowouts on their grandiose tunnel contracts and the like?.
One very pissed off Magnarc!!!!!!!!!

Good to hear you are home safe and sound Magnarc.
I *think* if you can show the pothole is excessive and you could not reasonably be expected to have seen it you do have a claim against "The State" whoever that may be for that road. Anyone know differently?
Thanks to Daniel Andrews Victoria has a massive debt load so I suspect we'll see poorly maintained roads for some years to come.

I've been complaining about Aussie roads for as long as I can remember. In fact I can never remember when Aussie roads were described as anything other than "tough". I have observed that potholes appear in a newly resealed road immediately after the first downpour.

And don't forget that the utilities subcontractors are all in the race to see who can dig the most trenches across any new or resurfaced road...
