You may have seen in the press of the recent car theft with caravan attached with a family of 6 still inside the van from a Hughendon caravan park. There was another car and caravan stolen from the Mareeba lookout several weeks ago but not widely reported, in the press, if at all. The car and caravan was dumped nearby.

"Be vigilante". Yes, it might come to that one day ... soon.

Certainly caravan theft can be a problem, with around 500 vans stolen each year, but there's something not quite right with the report of theft of a van with a family still inside. How did the thief manage to start the vehicle's engine? Surely there was some sort of security at the van park, whether it be cameras or simply other visitors being present? Would not the noise associated with gaining entry to, and starting, the vehicle have alerted a family member? Not having read the likely dramatised press report, I am not conversant with the circumstances, but it looks 'fishy', me thinks.

Major issues in Alice Springs again over the weekend according to The Australian - haven't heard such from other news outlets though but that doesn't surprise me.

It hasn't made any of the ABC Radio news bulletins.
No one would pay for ABC news: ABC: "All the news you need and none of the stuff we think you shouldn't know about."

The ABC's detractors don't seem to allow any wiggle room. It's not sufficient that the story appears on the ABC's web site, with numerous photos and videos. Nor is it sufficient that it was most definitely shown on the ABC's 24-hour TV news channel (although I no longer watch TV), probably a dozen times in the one day. But the ABC is derelict in its duty if the same story isn't broadcast on a particular radio channel at a time when the complainant is listening for it.
