I have a number of "computers" I use regularly; notebook, tablet x 2, phone etc and I often wish to transfer files between them so out comes the USB cable and it all quickly becomes a pain in the bottom. So: Brilliant Idea #789 Turn an old phone into a file server! A file server is a "computer" whose main purpose in life is simply to store and transfer files - a bit like a bookcase. There are a couple of ways to make this happen: 1 - FTP protocol 2 - HTTP protocol FTP is a bit complex but much more flexible, I'll details it if there is interest. HTTP, however, is quite simple to set up. First download this from Google Play and install it on your old phone: Google Play
When run the app. will provide a url of the variety: http://192.168.43.1:2121/files/ Copy this url into the web browser of your new phone/computer etc and bookmark it. On the old phone, turn off "Data" and turn on "WiFi hot spot". On the new phone turn off "Data" and turn on WiFi, now make a WiFi connection to the old phone. Return to your web browser and select the previously saved bookmark - magically a page will appear which is from your old phone and you may now save and retrieve files to/from that location.
