Certainly I can understand your frustration with this "excuse", but staff shortages are a major problem, particularly in rural areas. Each day I like, if possible, to have brekky at a cafe where I can have a coffee and read the newspaper. The number of these eateries, and indeed other small businesses, that are closed either temporarily or permanently because the simply cannot get staff, is staggering. Big signs in the front windows announce "Due to a lack of staff we have been forced to not open today" or "Lack of staff has unfortunately forced us to permanently close our business. We thank all our loyal customers for their support over the years". This is not just one town, but many smaller towns face the same problem. And often the staff members in those small cafes, and other small businesses that are still open, have no social skills, appearing not to even want to be there. What is the solution?

I can't remember the last time I needed to go into a bank. I think bricks-and-mortar banking is an age thing. I would still hate to see branches close down, but I think it's inevitable. Perhaps they'll go the same way as Australia Post and open every second day.
