Since the Great Central Road still is closed in parts I now will go to Port Augusta, and up to Coober Pedy. Since the satellite system in SA for road conditions is not working at the moment, does anybody here know what condition the road is in between Coober Pedy and William Creek?

Can't help, but if you get stuck I have a great idea for entertainment. Look east from 3am till sunrise, theirs a meteor shower happening on May 5,6,7th should see about 20 per hour.

Thanks Peter, for that bit of information. Presently I am dawdling across the Nullarbor so may not be at Coober Pedy for a few more days, but as I always wake early I certainly will look skywards! Cheers

I heard an astronomer type guy on the radio saying the two hours before sunrise is the best time to see them.

And I must give a plug to this brilliant piece of astronomy software for Android (check the Apple store too) - it is free, simple, highly informative, no ads, more features than you can imagine - if you like it, and you will, send the author a few dollars: Daff Moon
PS. Be sure to set your location on first use.
