I sought and obtained a refund for excess noise for our stay. How passive would you be about it?
We recently stayed at a caravan park at Nambucca Heads. Booked the non refundable special deal of 20% off for 4 nights midweek. It turns out they were doing preparation work to convert van sites to cabin sites. Our site was immediately accross the "road" from where they were working. The first day (afternoon arrival) it was a small backhoe digging trenches, next day similar. But the third day was horrendous. Chainsaws cutting down trees, industrial wood chipper and stump grinder. Shouting 2 metres from each other was diffiicult to hear. We were out most of the time (could not stand being there), so avoided most of the noise.
So I went to the office and said were leaving a day early and wanted compensation. There was no issue with getting 2 days refunded. So we stayed 3 and paid 2 at the discount rate.
The surprising thing is that when I asked the office how many had complained they said I was the first. True or not I don't know. But I asked the family on the nearest site to ours and they had no intention of asking for a refund, and I think they were there all day.
What would your expectations have been?
I know the easy answer is to move and freecamp in nature. My choice as well. But my partner likes to be in town so we alternate between freecamping and caravan parks.

Good on you for standing up for yourself.
Given the caravan park knew there was building work going on close by they should have informed you at the time of booking. People do not pay money for a spot in a caravan park to sit there and enjoy the noise and fumes of chainsaws et al.
However a Brownie Point to the CP for refunding without argument.
I almost never use caravan parks and on those rare occasions I am beset by noisy people in the bush I simply pack up and move ASAP. Getting into conflict with such people is never worth it - it will always end badly, probably for both them and me.
