Regularly, while driving my Roadtrain here in WA I am frustrated by caravanners with no idea what is going on around them, and sometimes I follow these clowns for many kms at 70kmh until I get a 1km piece of straight road to attempt to overtake them. The look of shock on their faces when they realise that a 120 ton Roadtrain has appeared alongside them is priceless. However, today I encountered a small convoy of 3 caravans, travelling at 70-75kmh, with no more than 6 metres between them. Because I am familiar with the road, and knew that we were approaching a 1km long straight, I hung back and then built up speed to overtake the convoy. Easy stuff you'd think, but these clowns weren't having a bar of it, and the Head Honcho, or Leader of the Pack, immediately accelerated to 100kmh as soon as he realised that I was there, followed by the other two. Because my truck is speed-limited to 100kmh I was stuck out there in no-man's land, and had to back-off and pull in behind them, but as soon as I did so the Head Honcho's brake lights came on and the convoy dropped speed to again travel at 70kmh. Why do people do these things? My dash cam recorded the whole incident, but reporting to the Police would be an exercise in futility as they have better things to than try to educate idiots. What is the solution? And don't tell me to be patient as we have schedules that are easily maintained if we can maintain a steady speed. Cheers

Why do people do these things? I don't know but I share your frustration. Some sort of need to be top dog perhaps? Such behaviour is irresponsible and childish and could easily result in injury or death, people *should* be prosecuted for doing this. I imagine you tried calling them on CB to let them know you wished to overtake? Driving, especially trucks or towing, is hard and and taxing... why we can't be nice and try to help out other drivers is beyond me.

Perhaps the brain dead are driving half asleep and only wake up when something changes, such as an overtaking lane.

Perhaps the brain dead are driving half asleep and only wake up when something changes, such as an overtaking lane. Yes, that regularly happens. Ma and Pa Kettle toodling along at 70kmh, in a world of their own until an overtaking lane appears. Then it's "Pedal to the metal" and they're off racing. But only until we drop back to single lane conditions. No brains, and happy without them!
