I write with regard to what I consider is the censoring of certain words on another forum. If a place is called Cocklebiddy then that is it's name and censoring the first four letters is carrying p.c. to ridiculous extremes. As Mike has said in a previous post, it may be so as not to upset the advertisers, if that is the case, this forums decision to go without them is to be applauded.
Politics. This subject is frowned upon elsewhere, why?. Television and newspapers are full of political comment so, if you have a gripe with a pollie, or a political party, why shouldn't you be able to voice it in a calm and respectful way?. I have long been an advocate for respectful posts on other forums and yes, some posters resort to derogatory comments of a personal nature and no one would expect this to be tolerated on here or anywhere else, but reasoned comments surely are not a problem. Pollies by their very nature, need to have a very thick skin and most of them do!
Instant dismissal. Of late there have been quite a few of these elsewhere in the nomadic sphere. Admins decision here to have a word via pm to the poster concerned is surely a much better way at least giving them a second chance. A poster who transgresses one time and is given the chop regardless of his/her previous or future helpful posts means that valuable contributor is lost due to one minor infraction.
Moderating a forum is not an easy task and Moderators walk a fine line. Upsetting fragile egos, and appearing to favour some members above others, are just two of the many problems that can occur. There is no way that this little black duck would take it on. Those of you from elsewhere who also decide to post here, will be well aware of Mike Harding and his way of calling a spade a spade, and I have no reason to doubt that this will change in the future with regard to the new challenge he has taken on. I have given my support to this forum in the belief that an alternative to the two others in this field is overdue, and I hope that it will provide some balance in the area of caravanning forums.

We're talking of the Grey Nomads forum of course.
The way that forum software does the naughty word check is facile; it should check to see if "cock" is a standalone word or, say, "cocktail" - this is a trivial thing to do in software and why it was not written that way I do not know.
I have banned only two words on this forum, the rather obvious F and C words because I am quite sure 99.99% of people who will post here know how to behave in public and don't need or want me to mummy them.
Magnarc: I agree, politics and religion are major aspects of our lives and those of us who wish should be permitted to discuss them albeit with the same approach we would employ at a dinner party or BBQ ie. you would not scream and swear at someone who didn't share your point of view. I suspect, again, 99.99% of us have managed to get through life successfully behaving this way.
Instant dismissal: Again, I agree. We all stuff up sometimes, a few drinks too many, a little too much emotion and the old "Engage brain before mouth" rule is forgotten. We are only human and we make mistakes, we should not be punished eternally for them.

Oh Mike! Banning talking about Ford Cortina's is just going too far. Got to keep standards high Possum I owned a couple of Ford Escorts at different times but never a Cortina although I did lust after the 1600 GT twin carb. variant but it was way out of the price range of a young man with a young family. Now that I can afford such a car I no longer want one!
